The U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia has released this statement:.

PHILADELPHIA - Today, a two-count complaint and warrant was filed charging Norman Leboon with threatening to kill United States Congressman Eric Cantor and his family, and threatening to kill Congressman Eric Cantor, who is an official of the United States, announced United States Attorney Michael L. Levy and FBI Special Agent in Charge Jan Fedarcyk. As set forth in the affidavit to the complaint and warrant, in or about late March, 2010, Leboon created and then transmitted a YouTube video to Google over the internet, in which he threatened to kill Congressman Cantor and his family. No harm came to the Congressman or his family as a result of Leboon's threats.

Norman Leboon (pictured to the left, next to Cantor) is 33 years old and lives in Philadelphia, PA. If convicted of all charges, he faces a maximum possible sentence of 15 years imprisonment; 3 years supervised release, and a fine of up to $500,000. Leboon was arrested Saturday by the FBI, three days after his YouTube video was seen by someone in San Francisco and reported to the FBI.

I wanted to post about Nicole Kidman testifying before the House Foreign Relations Subcommittee.

She attracted a huge crowd.  I'm sure every male Congressman and Senator wanted to be present.

I think any public woman with an audience as large as hers, can do a world of good in the world-wide fight struggle to end violence against women.  But she could be more honest.  Eyes Wide Shut did not help the cause.

It's that easy in this country for the a sicko, raised to believe women are property.  It's that easy to show his manhood by popping down to the local gun show and then offing a few of those horrid women who didn't jump into bed on a finger snap.

I used the word I promised never to use again.  I had to in this case.

I'm writing this because I just read Bob Herbert's piece in yesterday's New York Times.  Herbert sees the misognyny that causes the shooting sprees and he links it with the insanely easy availability of guns in this country.  He also calls out all Americans for not being outraged, not screaming to stop the killing.

Back in the fall of 2006, a fiend invaded an Amish schoolhouse in rural Pennsylvania, separated the girls from the boys, and then shot 10 of the girls, killing five.

I wrote, at the time, that there would have been thunderous outrage if someone had separated potential victims by race or religion and then shot, say, only the blacks, or only the whites, or only the Jews. But if you shoot only the girls or only the women — not so much of an uproar.
 

Action!  That's what Italians believe in when it comes to protecting women and children.  No fooling around and discussing the issue for a few years.  Just give them a week and they've managed to write one of the strongest anti-rape laws ever.

Italy's government has rushed through a decree to crack down on sexual violence and illegal immigration after a spate of rapes blamed on foreigners.

The decree sets a mandatory life sentence for the rape of minors or attacks where the victim is killed.

It also establishes rules for citizen street patrols to be conducted by unarmed and unpaid volunteers.

The number of sexual assaults fell last year, but three high-profile rapes last weekend sparked national outrage.

A walk through the Botanic Gardens ended in a candlelight vigil at Unifem's office in Nassim Road. Family violence accounts for the second-highest number of hotline calls at the Association of Women for Action and Research.

ORGANISERS of a walk yesterday had expected wet weather but the rain which came did not dampen the spirits of some 100 people who trooped through the Botanic Gardens.
