Invalid Card
I went to get a late lunch at the local sandwich establishment. I Ordered the "Wolverine" with special sauce... When I went to pay and my trusty plastic came up as "invalid". Huh? "Can't be". I looked at the mag stripe on the back of the card thinking it was damaged. Nope. I went next door to an ATM. It came back with the recipt saying "20.00 requested" 0.00 dispensed....
I went back into the sandwich shop and said, "I am concerned that I don't want you to toss the perfectly made food be cause my card is not working"...
They had me sign an I.O.U. and I will pay them tomorrow for a sandwich today.
I might be underfunded, but I am not flat broke yet, so I called the sanehalf to give her a heads up.
me: "My card came back invalid, what's up with that?"
sanehalf; "thats wierd, crazy daughter had the samething happen this morning. I looked at her balance and my computer froze. I had to reboot it."
Crazy son has the same thing happen. Sanehalf walks over to the Wells Fargo branch in the grocery store...(she was going to pay using a debi card when I called her.) and inquires as to what is going on. It turns out that because my sanehalf deposited a bad check from one of her clients, Wells Fargo saw fit to Suspend all the accounts she was a signer on. Ya know the kids call and say help I need cash...or what ever, the sanehalf does the banking....(with 18 years in the industry, who am I to argue?)
Suspending those accounts affected everyone in the family. No they didn't call, they didn't write, they just acted like it was their money in our accounts. All accounts we have with Wells Fargo have positive balances and no overdraft activity.
"So what client passed a bad check", my sanehalf asks of the branch manager. He couldn't tell her. So the victim is the person getting screwed. Way to go Wells Fargo, you idiots.
Why did this happen? Because Moody's downgraded Wells Fargo and all of a sudden they are looking at loss prevention as a number one priority. Screwwwwwww the little guy.... I am going to Jimmy Stewart's local Savings and Loans this week and tell that Stage Coach to bite me. Has this happened to anyone else in the last few weeks? I can't be alone in this type of immoral banking activity.

When an unline store I used frequently was hacked and credit cards were stolen, mine was among them. Fortunately I realized this very quickly because I make it a point to check my account often. There was several charges to WF amounting to about $400 that I knew were not made by me so I notified the card company and was advised to call WF and the local police.
I won't go into all the details, but during this time I was told that WF was known for letting card numbers go through without ID - quite happy to pay out on a bogus card. The cop I spoke to informed me that WF was notorious for aiding and abetting CC thieves in this manner and that law enforcement agencies were really going after them. The WF guy was very nice. He found the bogus charges and the culprit was known to him.
It all ended up with WF refunding the CC company and I was off the hook. Now I only use virtual numbers which are good only for a short time. Because I got on to it so quickly and cancelled the card number, I avoided having the number sold to other nasties resulting in horrific charges.
Moral - don't trust banks/CC companies to look out for you - do it yourself - they only want the money and don't care how they get it.
Teak, you are so valid here.
About to board a plane so I don't have time to say more.
To Florida to say goodbye to dad. He died of old age, 93 years young. He had the long healthy life we all dream of. I don't want to hijack the thread so I'll post about dad later. Please hold off for that thread.

Discover seems to stay on top of any funny looking activity. If something doesn't look right, we get a phone call. They issue a new card with a different number every time they suspect some unauthorized activity is taking place after speaking with us first.
We don't have an account with any bank, just credit unions. Much safer that way. Funds can be transferred from savings to checking with a phone call.
Hope things get straightened out soon.
Hampy, sorry to read about the loss of your father. (God rest him.)
In your stories about your parents, your mom and dad always seemed so close. My heart goes out to her.
My sympathy to all of you on your loss.
