Banned!
Well, it finally happened. I've been banned from a blog. That it comes now, at a point when I'm much less vocal than last year, is a bit of a surprise. That it happened on a blog to which I've contributed financially is even more baffling. What leaves me scratching my head, though, is that I seem to have been banned for objecting to a commenter who had trashed what I thought was a perfectly civil post. My post did include a few nasty words. They were direct quotes from the comment I was objecting to and yet I am the one who was banned.
I have to admit, this hurts. Being told your opinions not only don't matter but are unwelcome is painful. It would probably be less hurtful if the banning had come at any of a dozen turns when I wrote something that WAS outrageous and deserved action. It would be even less painful if, as I suspect, the blog owner is unaware of something her admins are doing. It wouldn't be the first time that had happened. But that remains to be seen.
So I have a question. It's a two-parter.
1. Have you ever been banned from a blog?
2. How did you feel and/or what did you do when it happened?

But not at dKos which I respect. They just muck with your privileges.
Some blogs also use software that auto-filters and you may be a victim. Some new fangled wordpress plug-in that bans anyone who uses the words President and bambie in the same post.

I used to read a certain well-known blog, first thing everyday, until they got saturated in kool-aid. One day I made a comment and it didn't go through and then I tried again. This went on for a few days, so I assumed that I'd been banned. I emailed them about it and never got any kind of response. After about a year I went back and tried again just for the heck of it, and they accepted it. I haven't been back since then, though, because they are all still totally mesmerized by Obama.
I'm not sure if I've been totally banned or not, but the 'proprietor of another blog, that is supposed to be a PUMA blog, invited me to leave a while back, when I made a comment saying that I couldn't stand Bush and Cheney. I think I also said that Bush scared the hell out of me. I was always afraid he would blow-up the world before he left office. This proprietor told me that she didn't tolerate "hate speech" on her blog. I was totally shocked, because I've never come across a Democrat or anybody claiming to be a PUMA who had any love for Bush or Cheney. What I said sure wasn't hate speech. It was just a very commonly shared opinion.
The two blogs, I speak of, don't welcome dissenting opinions at all. Most blogs don't. Everybody is supposed to think the same and say the same things. Boring, boring, boring. You never get to see a different side of an issue or really think about anything that way.
if some blog admins get a perverse kick out of clicking the "ban" button. It must be quite a power trip. Click! Poof! You're gone!
It may turn out that I'm not banned but as of now my posts will not go through. Absent some communication from the blog owner, I'll not be making another attempt, either. That's the glory of being a Partizane. We know what a good blogger is and we needn't waste our time on the bad ones..
...out of clicking the "ban" button." Yes, I know this to actually be true. But more specifically, it was a case of small people leading small, powerless lives, with a highly dysfunctional need to feel important and/or powerful. Some people should never be given power or authority over other human beings.

I've banned certain sites from my reading list! So it went the other way for me.
I think it's that I don't bother to be in controversy with people I consider idiotic. I only argue with those I respect. The rest I mostly ignore or maybe that's a less abrasive approach to the internet. Although, it may not be the best way to exchange ideas. I'm guilty of ducking, I suppose.
Independently adrift
I only offered a civil comment. You know the way I discuss things here. I don't use bad language, don't call people names, and offer thoughtful comments. If you happen to have an opinion at odds with the owner of a site or a moderator, you're ditched. And I'm talking about sites run by lefty Dems. I used to think well of lefty Dems but no more. They can be as vicious, petty, vindictive, and savage as anyone on the far right. To illustrate this, I made this graphic:
...I thought you were also banned from another blog, no?
I've never been banned, but have had my rating "privileges" revoked at one or two because an admin didn't like a diary I recommended or a comment I uprated. Nothing I actually said mind you, but just for agreeing with another person. I've left a couple of blogs because of one or more of the following reasons: sexism, Clinton hate, Palin hate, anti-semitism, duplicity, fellow admins lying to the readers (unbeknownst to the readers, of course), banning members for expressing an adverse opinion (not trollish), weak management (i.e., not getting rid of actual disrupters), kneejerk lefty-isms, and oh, there's general political ignorance. Mama doesn't suffer fools, you see.
Pick a reason, pick a blog - apply. ;)

I've left voluntarily every time. While I got crosswise with a couple of Alegre's admins, the lady and I actually enjoy a cordial relationship. At least I think we do.
The others...dKos, DU, Talk Left and a couple of others that escape me...I left for one of the reasons you've already listed. And I must say, that's as comprehensive a list of blog admin foibles as I've seen anywhere.
banned - the velvet glove treatment where they send you to Coventry.
But was threatened with being banned.
I know you may find it hard to believe that a sweet little old lady like me would say anything that might upset someone. But I did. and then when I was threatened I said it again and told them to shove their blog where the sun don't shine.
They may think the sun shines out of theirs but it doesn't. Or at least I didn't think so. I've bounced from Buzzflash to TL to TC and found a home at 3 blogs that I spend many happy hours at these days. Say What You Will is private blog, and then there is IA and here.
Being here is good for me because it forces me to be civil. Well hell, it forces me to be as civil as I get.

I'm surprised you haven't been banned. You're as outspoken as any poster on the blogs.
You're also more readable than almost any poster on the blogs. That may be why admins want to keep you around. People read what you post and it generates replies. Nothing a blog owner likes more than traffic.
When things get to the point that I don't feel comfortable being outspoken I don't want to stay.
I have always been the type that called a turd a turd when I thought I smelled a turd. Doesn't necessarily mean that it really is a turd, just that I perceive it as a turd.
That tiny bit of insight keeps me from being totally insufferable when I mount up on my highhorse.
Comes from an outspoken SIL I used to argue with many years ago. She would always say that she just "told it like it is". I insisted that what she was doing was "telling it like she thought it was". That's what I do. If I get banned for that, sobeit.

On two very related blogs. Those days are over.
Ad Age reports Internet usage is leveling off. Maybe censorship is a big reason why.
Thank god (it's leveling off.)
I was so naive I didn't know what happened right off the bat. Yes, In a way, it does hurt. People don't like being rejected. I was banned from MYDD. I now wear my rejection like an invisible badge of honor.
that banned me, if it ever happened. To be banned by an anti-Obama site is a real shock.
I wish they'd send some sort of official notification. They evidently don't. So you're left twisting in the wind, wondering why your posts won't go up and if you were banned and, if so, what you wrote that got you banned..
Being a stubborn sort, I got the last word in. I sent the blog owner one last contribution and told her she could thank the poster (maybe admin?) who was so nasty. Haven't received a "Thank you" yet but the money didn't come back, either. Of course, it's a weekend, so we'll see what posts to that account tomorrow.
...wondering why your posts won't go up and if you were banned and, if so, what you wrote that got you banned." That's exactly the way they do it at some of the biggie lefty blogs. Cowardly, to say the least.

We're partners in crime I guess.
What is interesting and part of my determination to never ban is I don't think Markos/dKos bans. they or their software just reduces ratings privileges or even diary posting rights but I don't think they ban.
I was also "tombstoned" at Democratic Underground after being a loyal and contributing member of the community for many years.

OMG, LOL. You weren't around there much then. It happened with regularity and still does.

Like the time I thought I was wrong but I was in fact right. so I was wrong after all.
